Home Health

Companies in the Home Care (home healthcare) sector primarily provide services directly to patients in their home. These services may be medical or nonmedical and include skilled nursing care, personal care, homemaker and companion services, physical therapy and medical social services. This sector often also includes in-home hospice care providers.

These Hospice programs offer symptom relief and pain management care (in terms of comfort rather than cure) for patients with life-terminating illnesses in the comfort of their own home.

The Home Care (Home Healthcare)  and Hospice sector is a highly fragmented industry with many small players offering a wide variety of home care services to an aging population. Relatively low barriers to entry and increasing demand for services has kept the industry competitive. Larger industry operators do exist, but the nature of industry services provides few incentives to accomplish economies of scale. Nonetheless, relatively low profit that is generated from serving well-established industry markets has encouraged operators to undertake mergers and acquisitions to boost profit and cut costs.
